LineScale Plug-In for Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader
Version 1.70

The LineScale plug-in is an "add-on" for Adobe Acrobat.  It installs a new tool button in these applications that allows you to accurately measure distances and areas in Portable Document Format (PDF) files.

LineScale has many unique features that make it the ideal tool for measuring floor plans, engineering drawings, maps, and graphic layouts.

Review the list of features below, or read the complete product documentation by clicking on the Help File button to the right.

Easy-to-use, powerful interface

The plug-in stays out of your way when you are not using it, is easy to operate when you need it, and has a great depth of user-definable settings to make your work easier.

Works with Acrobat, Reader, and Internet Explorer

View and measure PDF files directly through Acrobat or the free Reader program, or on the web using the LineScale plug-in and the Acrobat/Internet Explorer interface.

Snapping to points in vector graphic displays

Take advantage of the precision inherent in CAD-generated PDF files -- the cursor "snaps" directly to endpoints, intersections, midpoints, center points, and perpendicular points to give you measurements as exact as the original CAD drawing.

PDF measure functions

Continuous display of segment length, path length, and are allows you to measure individual elements as well as total lengths of elements that change direction (such as total length of a path, or circumference of a building).  Area measurement is indispensable for cost estimating or for calculating leaseable area.

User-definable scale factors

Use any scale you want -- conventional ones such as 1/4" = 1'-0" and 1 inch = 100 miles, or unconventional variations such as 6 cm = 10 feet.  Scale is totally flexible and is set by the user.  Scale may be selected from a graphic element or known length in the drawing, or may be entered directly from the keyboard.

User-selected units

Units for both the "drawing" and the "real world" can be set to feet, inches, feet and inches, miles, mm, cm, km, or points.

Metric / English unit conversion

Units can be automatically converted between Metric and English systems.  A map or plan drawn in English units, for instance, can be converted to Metric and displayed in Metric units as measurements are made.

Foot + inch and fractional inch display

At the user's option, display of feet and inches may include fractions of an inch, with precision from 1/2" to 1/128" or anywhere in between.

User-definable decimal precision

All unit types support decimal rounding from 0.1 to .00001

Continuous display in toolbar window

Get immediate feedback as the mouse is moved around the viewing area.

Orthogonal cursor constraints

At the user's option, cursor movement may be restricted to the horizontal or vertical directions.  This is a great help when working with drawings such as floor plans that are set up with primarily horizontal and vertical lines.

Variable cursors

The LineScale cursor changes color to indicate when a "snapping" point has been located.
